Arlin Kyle Pachet

September 6, 1971 - October 5, 2024

On October 5, 2024, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Dr. Arlin Pachet passed away suddenly at the age of 53 while doing what he loved most - mountain biking. Everyone knew Arlin as a pinnacle of health who was in the greatest shape of his life. He was born in Winnipeg, and grew up in Calgary, with a short stint in The Bay Area for graduate school. Arlin was a well-respected clinical neuropsychologist whose career spanned 24 years working at the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury, Alberta Health Services, and his own private practice Pachet Assessment and Rehabilitation Services Inc.. He was an expert in his field and forged many positive relationships within the psychology and legal world.  He leaves behind a huge void as his knowledge and experience was unmatched.

Arlin was a man of infinite hobbies. He had a passion for mountain biking, hunting, gardening, chicken wrangling, and anything that allowed him to be outside. He was stoked to go traveling, off-roading in his Ford Raptor, and learn Spanish - even though he couldn’t roll his Rs. He played poker, watched football, and attended all of his children’s events from brutal band concerts and Highland games to track meets, gymnastics competitions, and football games.

At 18, he met the love of his life, Jenny, after she gave him a piece of chocolate cake while working at a local video store. They were married 10 years later, after both graduating from graduate schools in California. Arlin’s claim to fame was getting his PhD in Psychology without ever having to get glasses. Although he was so accomplished, what made him most proud was raising his two children, Leah and Emmett, who completed their perfect family in 2005 and 2007. Every year for his birthday, Leah baked him a chocolate cake, paying homage to how their family started. Arlin was a master at balancing his work, hobbies, and family time, so nothing was neglected.

Although many saw his professional demeanour, those who were in his inner circle knew him for his cheeky humour, bad lying, belly laughs, “Arlinisms”, and contagious smile. He was the centre of his friend groups, always organizing poker games and mountain bike trips. Arlin made sure his family saw the world, with their yearly trips to create memories, like doing a Costco run in a convertible Mustang with two kids in carseats and a trunk full of luggage. His health was a priority to him, always committing to the latest research for healthy living. His Mom is really going to miss the ongoing challenges with his creative healthy baking requests and his coming by regularly for lunch visits and hugs. All those who got the chance to meet him were lucky to have him touch their lives, it was like winning the lottery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who would like to, make a donation to either The Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI) or My First Bicycle Foundation.
